DC Solicits for February 2011 & Beyond
1-A new bi-weekly series DC UNIVERSE ONLINE LEGENDS based on the upcoming video game. My first intincts are to skip it. But I might just check it out for Superman and Wonder Woman since I ain't buying any of those comics. None of the creators on board I really care about.
2-War of the Green Lanterns? Can we pause the GL events for a while, please?
3-YES!!!!!!!!!!!

3.5-More proof that Wonder Woman will never be the best written, best drawn, or best selling female centric comic book on the market.
4-From the pages of the best-selling BRIGHTEST DAY and GREEN LANTERN CORPS comes the new regular creative team of writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Patrick Gleason!
What? Didn't they take over a few issues-oh, that's right. DC had to use a fill in in the middle because scheduling is one of their week points.
5-Crossover between Teen Titans and Red Robin? To buy or not to buy?
6-Looking through this, nothing sounds interesting to me. At all.
7-DC COMICS PRESENTS: WONDER WOMAN #1
Written by ERIK LUKE
Art by YANICK PAQUETTE, BOB MCLEOD and DOUG HAZLEWOOD
Cover by ADAM HUGHES
Sounds good to me.
8-DC has pushed trades back to allow more time to sale through their issues print runs(though they are throwing the Zatanna trade out fairly quickly). I have not responded and will now be ordering Justice League: Generation Lost trade.
9-Jack of Fables ending? New Cinderella mini? Superheroes in Fables? Busy month in the Fables universe. Though I buy Jack in trades and will probably do the same for Cindy.
9.5-Can we declare Fables Universe the only good shared comic universe?
10-iZOMBIE VOL. 1: DEAD TO THE WORLD TP
Written by CHRIS ROBERSON
Art and cover by MICHAEL ALLRED
YAY!!!!!!!

DC Solicits for January 2011
Lets look into the future shall we? Right here. Than my thoughts.
1-Most the covers have a similar design. Hero(es) on a white background with insignia or symbol. Its nice until you realize there's 7 bat books, 4 of which uses the layout(one focus' on Joker) and than there's all those other Bat-related books.
2-Speaking of Batman, BATMAN: EUROPA finally comes out after being advertised... like five or six years ago? Oh, and it looks like issue 3 of the new Batman: The Dark Knight is already late with issue 3.
3-Shazam?
I'm sorry but I think what could make Shazam! work would be to do a lighthearted, more PG superhero comic. I don't think the devil offering them a deal really works with this type of character. And I don't like the cover. the hair, the lack of smile. Unless that's someone else in the outfit...

4-Wonder Woman's boobs didn't get bigger, they just made her top have a lower cut. Oh, and while the covers one of the better takes on the outfit it still does not work for me.

Looking at it more and more, I usually like Don Kramer, but there is something about how he draws Diana's face that bugs me. Maybe its the jawline, I don't know.
5-Batgirl #17 looks like a jumping on point. So I'll add that to my order plus pick up the one trade when I have a chance.
6-I was going to go off on how DC never seems to have enough archival/older material books coming out. At least in recent memory but they did well this time on two fronts. Finally volume 5 of Showcase Justice League and doing a Suicide Squad collection after they've been advertising and canceling it in various trade incarnations. Of course, they can cancel it again... Oh and another volume of one of their Archive series.
7-The bleed of dead imprints has a bunch of video game adaptations now being published by DC as well as an Authority trade. Plus the sequel to a OGN that originally came out through Minx.
8-Yay for FABLES #101.
9-DC pushing their trade releases farther into the future does not help because I order my books online. Due to problems with the comic shop closing and than reopening later which was inconvenient to me. Blah blah blah. I mention this because I do want to read I, Zombie. So DC/Vertigo guess what? I'm still not buying single issues and I'll wait for trade.
10-Some covers that popped for me. Mostly covers for books I don't buy and not really interested in.

Next up, Marvel Comics.

SHAZAM! #1
Script by ERIC WALLACE

Cover by CLIFF CHIANG
Blaze, the current ruler of Hell, has an offer for Mary and Billy Batson that may be too good to pass up! Left powerless, will the two former heroes have the strength to deny the devil? Can Freddy Freeman save them? And how does the Titan Osiris fit into it all? Find out here, in this one-shot special written by Eric Wallace (TITANS) with art by Cliff Richards (THE ROAD HOME: BATMAN & ROBIN #1)!

August Comix
Serenity Rose Vol. 2: Goodbye Crestfallen-Good book. Aaron A.'s best book since the first volume so many moons ago. Still, the earlier style was more cutesy and I liked that but the slight shift in style didn't detract from the fun.
Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love-Good times. I can see Cindy being the lead in a third Fables book, though I kind of don't want a third book. Though I was a little miffed Aladdin wasn't Chinese. i mean, he is suppose to be Chinese.
X-Factor: Second Coming-Good, despite the fact I did not follow that X-Men crossover.
Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 1-Some good, some bad. Like the character though...
Wonder Woman #602-Middle of the road here. Solid, but ultimately i could give a rats ass.
Tiny Titans #31-Awww yeah.
Fables #97-Pretty good. Not the best.
Batman #702-Wishing I'd have gotten any of Morrisons other Bat books. Still, solid.
Zatanna #4-Veyr fun.
X-Men #2-Getting a little better.
Birds of Prey #4-I think I'm hooked.
Nancy in Hell #1-Stupid silly. But kinda fun.
Gotham City Sirens #15-Yeah... no.
Murderland #1-lame.
Morning Glories #1-Pretty good.

Whats In My August Box of Comics
This is what I got, and here is the anticipation factor before reading.
Serenity Rose Vol. 2: goodbye Crestfallen-Way back, like half a decade ago, I bought this cool series from SLG. Than it disappeared and the guy did some whack stuff for DC imprints. Then serialized the sequel on a website I, for some reason, had trouble loading but I noticed a shift in his character designs. Missed the first solicit for this collection but now i have it. Am I excited? Uuuuuuuuuugh... by the way, this thing is really thin for 20 bucks. Luckily I don't pay full price.
Naoki Urasawa's 20th century Boys Vol. 10-Read this online already. Good, tense, volume with Kyoko meeting our current hero Kanna and more background on the mysterious Friend. Buy this.
Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love TPB-Collecting a mini series spin off from the best mainstream 'alternative' comic out there. Anticipation is building.
X-factor: Second Coming-Currently the Marvel title I've been following the longest. In trades. Always good, sometimes great, but my anticipation is always cool. Not on the top of my pile but not on the bottom. Also, 4 stories and looks to be less than 100 pages. All for 20 bucks? I know its hardcover but other volumes have had 5-6 issues and cost the same with hardcover. Marvel, handle that shit.
Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 1-Image needs to work on their scheduling. This was suppose to be out in June and Volume 2 out in July. Yeah... Still, nice size book for a good price and I've heard good things. Always interested and it'll be first to be read.
Wonder Woman #602-Uuuuugh... Yeah... Still not sure about this.
Tiny Titans #31-Awww yea.
Fables #97-Rose Red sleeps with her sisters husband. I'm guessing. Looking forward to reading the issue.
Batman #702-Missing chapters. Fun but wheres the other better, Morrison Bat Books? None came out in July?
Zatanna #4-Might be my new fav superhero comic.
X-Men #2-New series, same ridiculousness. Vampires. Kinda curious though.
Birds of Prey #4-3 issues in and not quite capturing the enjoyment I had with Simone's first go around with this title. You know, before they canceled it because she left and it started to suck. Still, I'll give her sometime because I do enjoy these characters.
Morning Glories #1-Heard good things. Very interested.
Murderland #1-Chance pick on my order. Haven't heard anything.
Nancy in Hell 1-This looks bad. the good kind of bad.
Gotham City Sirens #15-Quality is all over the place so I dropped it. But I will read this issue, and any others I get, before my cancellation went into effect. Doesn't help Dini seems gone and Guillerm march is on and off as artist
Shuddertown #4-Don't care. Canceled.
Hellcyon #3-Don't care either. its obvious why superhero books sell best. Their a safety blanket from the unknown.

June Favorites 2010
Mark Waid, I understand your pain. While I can't quit them all, I am less enthused upon reading solicits and actual books.

7. Green Lantern #55-Who knew a quick fight with Lobo would spruce things up. Though I still am wondering where the hell is Cowgirl at?

6. Batman #700-I've only read this and Wonder Woman #600 of the various "milestone" issues. This was the best of the two.

5. Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #3-Look, another Batman issue. Thanks Bats for providing me with my current fav superhero stories. Though...

4. Zatanna #2-... I am actually digging this series thus far.

3. Fables #96-Good story about the riff between Rose Red and Snow White, despite the fact I know whats going to happen in the next issue. Red sleeps with Prince Charming(Thats not a spoiler if you've followed the series at any length. They've said as much.) By the way, like the new cover artist.

2. Jack of Fables vol. 7: Adventures of Jack & Jack-I like Jack Frost more than the main Jack character, Jack Horner. But Horner always gets into wild situations I must follow.

1. Cover Run: The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes-My favorite was something that wasn't a comic but an art gallery of comic covers? Totally! The Wonder Woman and Catwoman covers are awesome. Plus the put one of my fav Justice League covers in here amongst other neat pieces. Too bad they couldn't put every cover he's done in here.
Technically I should have put 20th Century Boys volume 9 in here but I read through most of it a while back. Probably should finish up 21st Century Boys. Anyway check that out. I also got volumes 13 and 14 of Naoki Urasawas other book Monster. Those were awesome.
I also got JLA: League of One starring Wonder Woman which was phenomenal and the newest Seven Soldiers of Victory collection which I know is good. Maybe I'll just start putting anything I buy up here versus actual June releases and first time reads.

Tentative Mail Order Comics Order for August(and Beyond)
BATMAN #702-Early reviews for Batman #700 sound good. Even though this is an arc that takes place after that issue but still, good to hear.
BATMAN AND ROBIN #15-Frazier Irving on art for this arc. Good times. His issue of Return of Bruce Wayne was great.
BATMAN RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #5 (OF 6)-Ryan Sook on art. Hope it comes out on time.
BIRDS OF PREY #4 (BRIGHTEST DAY) -First issue of relaunch was good. I hope it builds to the awesome that was Simone's previous run.
BTVS SEASON 8 TP VOL 07 TWILIGHT-Buffy season 8 trade. The series is middling but I want to follow the characters.

FABLES #97-More Rose Red? Oh yeah! Sweet cover.
GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #15-Its what was suppose to be issue #14.
GREEN LANTERN #57-Still good though GL is starting to become a little, I don't know, I guess I've just read too many issues with him it feels.
HACK SLASH OMNIBUS TP VOL 03 (IMAGE ED)-Collects HACK/SLASH #18-34, plus the ENTRY WOUND one-shot. Yep, and I have yet to read anything still. I think this volume comes out in June which would be with my Adam Hughes Cover book, Seven Soldiers HC, and WW archives volume 6. That's gonna be a heavy package.
JOE THE BARBARIAN #8 (OF 8)-Gonna have to read it in one sitting.

NANCY IN HELL #1 (OF 4)-Looks like a guilty pleasure.

May Favorites 2010
6. Wonder Woman #44-Last issue by Gail Simone, not counting her co-writing the renumbered next issue. Anyway Diana battles her cousin and we learn her aunt is a bitch. Sad to see the Gorillas go I must say...
5. Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #2-Love the art. Very gripping story.
4. X-Factor:Invisible Woman Has Vanished-I guess this is the longest Marvel series I've followed even though I only purchase it in trades. I don't really care for the Fantastic 4 but enjoyed this one with the F4 guesting.
3. Zatanna #1-Looks good, reads good. Magical and mystical fights up ahead.
2. Fables #95-Snow White and Rose Red flashback. Good times.
1. Naoki Urasawas 20th century Boys Vol. 8-Best f'n comic on the stands. This one mainly focus' on Kyoko, a high school student who decided to do a report on the Kenji group-the supposed terrorists who were actually trying to prevent a terrorist plot. It's damn good.

CINDERELLA FROM FABLETOWN WITH LOVE TP (MR)-Not by Bill Willingham but I'm interested.
JOE THE BARBARIAN #7 (OF 8) (MR)-Morrison written but I'm not quite feeling it. Though the arts pretty.
HACK SLASH OMNIBUS TP VOL 02 (IMAGE ED) (MR)-Last time I said I was going for volume 3 but after looking at Amazon I found out there were several various trades and Omnibus'. The third one should be out in November.
AVENGERS CHILDRENS CRUSADE #1 (OF 9)-After failing Wonder Woman Heinberg gets back to the one thing he does well, Young Avengers. Was thinking of buying the big trade but found my YA issues.
BLACK WIDOW #4-Pretty art. Meh story.
X-MEN #1-Been in need of some X-Men so I'll try this.
NAOKI URASAWA 20TH CENTURY BOYS GN VOL 10-Still waiting on Viz to release Volume 8.

8. Runaways #11-The books starting to be good again. Of course, they also have to kill character I like to do it.
7.Wonder Woman #33-Fuck Ares and fuck Zeus.
6. Detective Comics #854-Batwoman is cool. And so is the Question.
5.Batman & Robin #1-God damn that was awesome! All the way through!
4. Great Fables Crossover Parts 7 through 9-Not a great finish but a satisfying one.
3. 20th Century Boys Vol. 3-I've heard things about mangaka Naoki Urasawa. And I mean things that put him up as one of the modern day greats as far as comics go. 20th Century Boys has made me a believer. Spooky, twisted, pseudo-sci-fi. I expect Hollywood to get on this quick.
2. Empowered Vol. 5-Tragedy abounds this volume in the explosive finale. leaves you anxiously awaiting volume 6.
1. Excel Saga vol. 19-You knew as much...

May 2009 Favorites
It seems every other month is sort of lame.

6. Green Lantern #41-More Orange flavored fun.

5. Justice Society of America #27-Pretty good start to a fill in arc by Jerry Ordway.

4. Tiny Titans #16-Raven is the fastest there is.

3. Runaways #10-Finally... a good Runaways issue. Yay! Its been quite a long time. Really liked the art in the first story by Sara Pichelli who it seems is the new ongoing artist. Good choice Marvel.

2. Wonder Woman #32-Lots of violence. And some crafty Greek gods in there as well.

1. The Great Fables Crossover Parts 4-6-Jack is a jerk. Bigby Wolf is a pretty little girl. Kevin beats his writers block to death. Good times.

March Sucked.

5. Jack Kirby's Losers Omnibus-Good, fun, entertaining. Great art. Plus Kirby's drawings of military tanks, weapons, and uniforms used in WWII was a treat.

4. Justice Society of America #25-Getting closer to fixing the Marvel family.

3. Wonder Woman #30-Action, action, action.

2. Jack of Fables Vol. 5: Turning Pages-I hate you Jack Horner. But i can't stop following your adventures.

1. Deadpool Classics Vol. 2-The first volume was filled with blah art and meh stories until the end. This one really kicks off Joe Kelly's run with issue 2 and a couple specials. Good times.
... hold it... did I put a Marvel comic on top?

February Favorites 2009
So I got the Saga of Swamp Thing by Alan Moore. I don't find the character too interesting. Though I did like the Anatomy lesson, after that, I just sort of didn't care. Yes, blasphemy.
Also, I can no longer use images from comics.org. I stopped going to DC and Marvel because they disappear after while. So I went back to Midtown to link images.

7. Wonder Woman #29-Zeus is a punk.

6. Young Liars #12-Danny is a lair. Or screwed in the head. Ah... answers.

5. Justice Society of America #24-Rock of Finality?

4. Green Lantern #38-Lots of colored rings.

3. Skip Beat Vol. 17-Kyoki is getting a lot of offers for roles similar to the one she's playing on TV. Plus she's asked to look after a big time celebrity returning to Japan.

2. High School Debut Vol. 8-Guys are really liking Haruna all of sudden. Probably cause she's dating the hot guy in school.

1. Nana Vol. 15-I just want to say, Ai Yazawa is taking her sweet time finishing this up in Japan. Its damn near over but shes milking it. As for this volume, its good.
